Running your model

You run your models from the Launch Pad. The Launch Pad provides functionality to run one or more scenarios using the various design engines. Status information is provided as the scenarios are running so that you know the current state of the solve, as described in Reviewing the solve. Detailed status data provides information about individual actions in the solve process, such as generation of specific input files, problem formulation and population of output tables.

You can run your model locally or, if you are logged into SupplyChainGuru.com, you can solve the model on the Cloud and then download the results to your local model. For additional information about solving on the cloud, see Solving on the Cloud.

Supply Chain Guru X provides a command line tool that enables you to solve scenarios outside the application's user interface. See Solving with the command line tool for additional information.

Run a model

1. At the top of the Supply Chain Guru X window, click Run . You see the Launch Pad.
2. Select the Technology you want to use from the drop-down list:
   • Network Optimization
   • Inventory Optimization
   • Transportation Optimization
   • Simulation
   If you have limited the displayed technologies using Technologies in Model Settings, the list of available technologies is limited to those that are currently displayed.
3. Select the Problem Type from the drop-down list:

   Network Optimization:

   • Network Optimization
   • NO Decomposition
   • Greenfield Analysis
   • NO Infeasibility Diagnosis
   • Cost To Serve Analysis

   Inventory Optimization:

   • Safety Stock Optimization
   • Safety Stock + Service Level Optimization

   • Demand Analysis

4. Optionally, click Options to access the options specific to the selected design engine. For information about specific options, refer to the following topics:
   • Network Optimization options
   • Inventory Optimization options
   • Greenfield Optimization options

   • Network Optimization Infeasibility options
5. In the Select Scenarios section, select the scenario(s) you want to run.
6. If you have defined sub-scenarios (by providing more than one Value for a scenario item), you see a check box for each scenario item with sub-scenarios. You can:
   • Check the sub-scenario check box to run all sub-scenarios.
   • Uncheck the sub-scenario check box to run the scenario with only the first value (one sub-scenario).

   For example, assume you have a scenario item where you are adjusting the demand quantity by factors of 1.2, 1.35 and 1.5. You have 3 values defined for the scenario item. Each of these values represents one sub-scenario. When you run the model, if you select the check box for this item, the scenario is run 3 times, once with each of the values defined. If you uncheck the check box, the scenario is run once with the value of 1.2.

7. If you have already run the scenario(s) with the selected Technology and you want the existing input files to be used, select the check box for Do not generate input files. When this option is selected, the new input files are not generated and the existing files are used to solve the scenario.
8. If you are logged into Supply Chain, you can solve the scenario(s) on the cloud by selecting Cloud as the Run Mode.
9. If you are solving on the cloud, optionally select a Cloud Engine. This enables you to control the use of design engines, such as assigning a smaller engine to smaller models or selecting an engine class for models from specific business units. If you do not require a specific engine, you can use the Default Cloud Engine.

   Depending on the selected problem type, the list of available engines may change. Each list provides a default engine.
   

10. Click Run. The selected scenarios are solved by the specified technology. You can review details of the solve as described in Reviewing the Solve. You can click off the Launch Pad fly-out while your scenarios are running.
11. When each scenario run is complete, a message is displayed at the top of the workspace. You can click on View to access the Launch Pad with the results for the scenario that just completed.
12. To run more scenarios, click Add. Use steps 2 through 6 to define and run again.
13. You can optionally click Clear Completed to clear the information for runs that have already been completed.
14. Click Yes to clear information for all runs that are completed, canceled or failed.
15. Click Close when you have finished running models on the Launch Pad.

Task processors

When you run a scenario using one of the design engines, a task processor is started for each of the phases of the solve - input file generation, solving and output file processing. Once the phase is complete, the task processor associated with it is closed. For example, when you run a scenario using Network Optimization, you will see up to 3 LLamasoft.Services.NO.TaskProcessor in the Task Manager.

Canceling solves

You can cancel scenarios that you have queued as described below:

Cancel a scenario

1. Once you have clicked Run to solve one or more scenarios, select the scenario to cancel from the Scenario Queue. You see the Run Log window.
2. Click Cancel. The selected scenario is canceled.
