Pie Chart

Use the Pie Chart widget to display a circular chart that illustrates how different factors contribute to an overall total.

Pie Chart widget properties

Use this property To do this
General tab
Name Type an internal name for the widget.
Connection Name Specify a connection to a data source.
Scope Type Make the connection public or specify a named session.
Title Type a title for the Pie Chart widget box. If necessary, adjust the appearance of the title.
Title Bar Visibility

Specify the visibility of the widget title bar. Choose one of the following:

  • Above
  • Overlay
  • Hidden (outside Designer only)
Context Sensitivity

Specify the context sensitivity.

Choose from the following:

  • None
  • Receives Context
  • Provides Context
  • Custom

Context can be received and provided on the X-axis values.

Context can be received on the following:

  • The Y-axis values

  • For any of the axis, X-axis, Y-axis and secondary Y-axis, context can be received on the following:

    • Any constant lines

    • Any shaded regions

To specify context sensitivity options, click to access the context sensitivity properties.

Tile tab
Background Color Specify the background color of the list.
Text Color Specify the color of text in the list.
Show Shadow Display a shadow on the widget.
Show Title Row Border Display borders around the title row of the widget.
Font Size Specify the size of the widget title.
Font Preview Shows you how your font selections will affect the widget title.
Bold Display the widget title text in bold.
Italic Display the widget title text in italics.
Series tab
X Axis Values or Labels Specify values or labels to use for the X axis.
  1. Click .

    A blank field is displayed.

  2. Construct the query as necessary. See Statement Editor Functions for a list of available functions.
Series Click Add Series to add a chart series. Click the Properties icon to edit the chart series properties.
Chart Series Properties (General tab)
Name Type a name for the series.
Description (if differs from Name) Type a description for the series.
Type

Defaults to Pie chart.

Series Color Specify a color for the series.
Y Axis Values or Range Lower Limits Click and specify the data to use for the Y axis or an upper limit to the data range.
Chart Series Properties (Labels tab)
Show Labels Display labels for the series. These are the labels displayed within the chart, not the axis labels.
Show for Zero Values Select the check box to display labels for data in the series with zero values.
Show Connector Lines Display small lines to connect the labels with points on the series.
Label

Specify the value to display on the label. Use curly brackets to specify parameter values.

Click to adjust the label value format. For example, you can change the format from a number to a percentage.

Position

Specify the position of the label in relation to the chart data. Choose from the following:

  • Outside
  • Inside
  • Columns
Chart Series Properties (Tooltips tab)
Show Tooltips Select the check box to display tooltips when you hover over chart elements. By default, this is set to the same state as the Show Tooltips field on the Pie Chart Properties > Options > Other tab.
Label

Specify the value to display as a label. Use curly brackets to specify parameter values.

Click to adjust the label value format. For example, you can change the format from a number to a percentage.

Chart Series Properties (Pie tab)
Pie Hole Radius %

If you want to create a donut chart, select the size of the hole in the pie chart as a percentage of the radius of the pie chart.

Pie Rotation Enter the degree of rotation to use for the first slice of the pie. The default is zero degrees.
Pie Sweep Direction Select whether slices are ordered clockwise or counter-clockwise.
Chart Series Properties (Options tab)
Show in Legend Include the series name in the chart legend.
Ignore Null/Empty Points Don't include points associated with null or empy values in the series.

Show Legend

Select the check box to display a legend. Adjust the remaining fields on the tab as necessary.

Label

Specify the value to display on the label. Use curly brackets to specify parameter values.

Click to adjust the label value format. For example, you can change the format from a number to a percentage.

Position Specify where the legend should appear relative to the chart.
Orientation Select whether the legend should be oriented vertically or horizontally.
Columns Select the number of columns to include. The default is auto.
Rows Select the number of rows to include. The default is auto.
Text Position Select where the legend item labels should appear relative to the legend entries.
Margin Select how much margin space should separate the legend from the edge of the chart.
Padding Select how much margin space should surround the legend.

Use Color Palette

Specify the color theme for the pie chart.

Match Colors to Labels

Select this to have the colors of the labels match the colors in the pie chart sections.
Options > Tooltips tab
Show Tooltips (Default) Select the Show Tooltips check box to display tooltips.
Options > Other tab
Single-Selection Mode Select the check box to turn on single selection mode.
Show Animation Select the check box to show animation on the chart.
K/M/B Summarization (Default) Select to display large numbers in summarized notation.
Show Series Labels (Default) Select the check box to show the series labels.
Font Size Specify the size of the series label.
Font Preview This text gives you a preview of how your font selections will affect the series label.
Bold Display the series label in bold.
Show Tooltips (Default) Select the Show Tooltips check box to display tooltips.
Font Size Specify the size of the tooltips.
Font Preview This text gives you a preview of how your font selections will affect the tooltips.
Bold Display the tooltips in bold.
Overlapping Labels

Specify how to handle overlapping labels.

  • Choose from the following:
    • Overlap
    • Hide
    • Move
Advanced tab
Conditions Specify any conditions that must be met to return a value.
  1. Click Add Statement.

    A blank statement is displayed.

  2. Construct the query as necessary. See Statement Editor Functions for a list of available functions.
Sort By Filter the data to further narrow the scope of the query.

  3. Click Sort Ascending or Descending to adjust the order of displayed records.
Only select the top __ records Specify to select only a specified number of records with the highest values.
Button Visibility tab
Refresh Show or hide the Refresh button on the widget toolbar.
Show/Hide Legend Show or hide the Show/Hide Legend button on the widget toolbar.
Events tab
Add Event Handler Add events to the widget.
  1. For When/On, specify when you want the event to occur.
  2. For Then, specify the action that you want to occur.
