Model history
Use the Model History to control the backup files for your models. Within a backup file, one or more backup points is saved. Once a backup point has been created, you can then restore it to return to the backed up state of the model. See Using model history.
Model history settings
You control the general behavior of the Model History using the Model History Settings in Application Settings. These settings apply to all models and are used to control:
- The maximum number of backups – This setting controls the maximum number of backups (full plus differential) in the backup file. Once this maximum is reached, the next backup results in a new backup file, with the most recent 10 backups. There will always be a full backup in the backup file. Therefore, when the maximum number of backups is reached and the most recent backups are all differential, the next backup will be a full backup.
- Which actions will trigger a backup prior to the event being run – In addition to manual backups you create using the Model History tool, you can have backups created automatically prior to specific actions, such as running a scenario.

- Select Settings > Model History Settings.
- Select the Maximum number of Backups. If you set this value to 1, a new full backup is created whenever a backup is triggered. Otherwise, the first backup will be a full backup, then subsequent backups are differential until the maximum is reached.
- Enable the switch for each action that you want to have trigger an automatic backup. For example, if you turn on the switch for Run a Scenario, a backup is created prior to each scenario being run.
- Click OK.
