Creating an input pipe
Before you create an input pipe, you need to have your input pipe data source in place. Refer to Creating a data source to learn how to set up your data source.
There are several types of input pipes:

- Select Build > Input Pipes
.
- On the Input Pipes tab, click New Input Pipe.
- Edit the Name (the default name is “New Input Pipe (n)”).
- Select the Data Source. This is a data source you have defined as described in Creating a data source or the names of any User Defined Tables you have created. If you need to create a data source, click New to access the External Data Source form, then follow the instructions in Creating a data source.
- Select the Lookup Method. This is one of:
- For Standard Lookup and Matrix Lookup input pipes, select the Destination Table into which the input pipe data will be populated.
- For Standard Lookup and Matrix Lookup input pipes, select the Destination Field into which the input pipe data will be populated.
- Optionally enter a Default Destination Value. This value will be used when the lookup into the input pipe fails. For example, if you are creating an input pipe for Variable Transportation Cost in Transportation Policies, you may want to set a large Default Destination Value to prevent the design engines from using the policy if the lookup fails.
The rest of the input pipe definition depends on the Lookup Method.
