Copy and paste expressions

You can copy and paste expressions within an action or project or between projects, eliminating the need to re-enter an expression you've already created. This feature also allows you to use an existing expression as a template that can then be customized for other uses. Expressions can be copied and pasted directly into those actions supporting expressions, or by using the Expression Editor.

When you copy or paste an expression, the entire expression is used; you cannot copy or paste a partial expression.

Use any of the following methods to copy and paste an expression:

  • Keyboard - Position the cursor anywhere in the expression box and use Ctrl + A to select the expression, Ctrl + C to copy the expression, or Ctrl - V to paste an expression from the clipboard.
  • Right-click - Position the cursor anywhere in the expression box, then right-click and select Copy or Paste from the menu.
  • Hover menu - Hover or click on an expression to display the icon menu, then select the Copy or Paste icon from the menu.

When pasting an expression:

  • A confirmation message displays when pasting into a box that already contains an expression (or when deleting an expression), prompting you to confirm your decision.
  • Field names, table names, and data types must match those of the expression being replaced; otherwise, placeholder "beans are inserted to indicate the conflict.
  • Placeholders are also inserted for -
    • computed fields
    • owned fields
    • aggregated fields
