Using zone costs
Zone costs enable you to define cost definition structures similar to standard parcel rates, such as UPS and FedEx. You create zones based on origin group-destination group pairs. For each zone, you can set up one or more steps to which costs are applied. You use a set of three tables to create the zone cost structure:
- Zone Cost Definitions – Use this table to identify the group type that is used as a zone, such as a state or zip code. You also establish the step size and maximum step, as well as the step period and basis. For example, you can create a 3-digit zip structure with a step size of 2 and 4 breaks (based on a maximum step size of 6).
- Zone Assignments - Use this table to associate source group-destination group to a zone number. For example, with the 3-digit zip example you use the table to construct a matrix similar to this one:
Destination group name | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Source group name | 100 | 101 | 102 | 103 | 104 | |
100 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 3 | |
101 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 3 | |
102 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 2 | |
103 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 2 | |
104 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 1 |
- Zone Costs – Use this table to define the cost per step per zone. Following our 3-digit zip example, this table enables you to create costs similar to this matrix:
Step | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Zone | 0 | 2 | 4 | 6 | |
1 | 1.00 | 0.95 | 0.90 | 0.85 | |
2 | 1.50 | 1.40 | 1.30 | 1.20 | |
3 | 2.00 | 1.85 | 1.70 | 1.55 | |
4 | 2.50 | 2.30 | 2.10 | 1.90 | |
5 | 3.00 | 2.75 | 2.5 | 2.25 |
