Modeling sites

Sites serve as the nodes in the supply chain network. These nodes are the locations where products are made and may serve as sourcing to customers based on the sourcing and transportation policies in a standard flow.

Site elements

Each site defined in the model includes these main elements:

  • Name. The name of the site.
  • Site Type. The site type can be categorized in one of three ways, based on the site’s role in the network model.
    • Existing Site. A production or distribution site that exists in the model structure by default.
    • Potential Site. A production or distribution site that does not exist in the model structure by default, but is tested during optimization for its potential contribution to the network.
  • Status. The status of the site determines its inclusion in any model optimization or simulation calculations.
    • Include. The site is included in simulation or optimization by default.
    • Exclude. The site is not included in simulation or optimization by default.
    • Consider. Network Optimization recommends whether the site should be used to create an optimal network structure. During Simulation, the site is included if its site Type is set as an Existing Site, but excludes the site if its Type is set as a Potential Site.

The following are sample Sites records:

Name Address City State Country Postal Code Status Type Fixed Startup Cost Fixed Operating Cost
MFG   Ann Arbor MI USA 48104 Include Existing Site 10000 FixedOperating_NA
DC1   Chicago IL USA 60603 Include Existing Site 5000 1000
DC2   New York NY USA 10010 Include Potential Site 4000 2000
CZ1   Miami FL USA 33101 Include Customer

The Fixed Operating Cost has a Step Cost Definition called FixedOperating_NA with Step Cost records such as:

Name Minimum Quantity Cost
FixedOperating_NA 0 1000
FixedOperating_NA 200 4000
