Modeling production policies
Production Policies are used to define the production of products at specific sites.
Production policy elements
A site’s production policies include the following elements:
- Site. The site that produces the product.
- Product. The products that are generated by the production policy.
- Production Policy. Method by which a production site is selected.
- Production Time. The time required for production of the product.
Site Name | Product Name | Production Policy |
MFG1 | Product A | Make |
Types of production policies
Production Policies are implemented based on the Production Policy selected:
Production Policy | Description |
Make | Allows for production by filling incoming orders within the site. During the run, the required products are created at sites with this Production Policy to fulfill demand. |
Make by Schedule |
This Policy is unique in that it never places replenishment orders regardless of its inventory levels. It relies primarily on user designated production patterns in the Productions table to supply the model with products to fulfill demand. In Simulation, no productions for any amounts other than those in the Productions table occur for a Make by Schedule policy. For Optimization, only minimum production constraints are created. These do not act as fixed constraints. If fixed constraints are required, you should create them in the Production Constraints table. The Make by Schedule Production Policy is also used in conjunction with scripting logic implemented in Simulation scripts. |
