Inventory

Inventory is used to define the Inventory Policies in your model.

In addition to generating the policies and constraints, inventory provides the ability to define:

Defining inventory data

  1. Navigate to the Inventory node within Policies & Constraints. By default, Generate Inventory data is selected. If you do not want to generate inventory policies, select No Inventory data generation.

  2. Click Next to continue defining the Inventory Capabilities.

Inventory capabilities

Use the Capabilities node under Inventory to do the following:

  • Select the source of the policies from a set of DDM tables.

Defining inventory capabilities

  1. Navigate to the Capabilities node within Inventory.

  2. Use Select the source to generate Inventory Capabilities to select the source DDM table for Inventory Policies. This is one of:
    • Inventory Transaction - this is the default. Inventory policies are generated using the inventory_transaction DDM table.
    • Orders Full - Inventory policies are generated using the orders_full DDM table.
    • Shipments Full - Inventory policies are generated using the shipment_full DDM table.
    • Inventory Policies - Inventory policies are generated using the inventory_policies DDM table.
    • Inventory Positions - Inventory policies are generated using the inventory_positions DDM table.

    When you select "Inventory Policies" as the source, additional columns will be mapped to the Inventory Policies model table. These include: Review Period, Product Inventory Value, Product Taxable Value, Inventory Turns, Safety Stock and others.

Your Inventory capabilities are now complete.

Click Next to proceed to Inventory > Inventory Costs.

Inventory costs

Use the Inventory Costs node under Inventory to determine which inventory costs you want to include in your model.

Defining inventory costs

  1. Navigate to the Inventory Costs node within Inventory.

  2. Select one or more inventory costs to include. For each cost you select, a child node will be available. Inventory costs are optional, so you are not required to select a cost:

    • Inbound Handling Costs per unit

    • Outbound Handling Costs per unit

    • Carrying Costs

  3. If you selected "Inbound Handling Costs per unit", select the Inbound Handling node or click Next.

  4. Select the source DDM table for inbound handling costs. This is one of:
    • Inventory Policies - this is the default. Inbound handling costs are defined using the inventory_policies DDM table.
    • Orders Full - Inbound handling costs are defined using the orders_full DDM table.
    • Shipments Full - Inbound handling costs are defined using the shipment_full DDM table.
  5. If you selected "Outbound Handling Costs per unit", select the Outbound Handling node or click Next.

  6. Select the source DDM table for outbound handling costs. This is one of:
    • Inventory Policies - this is the default. Outbound handling costs are defined using the inventory_policies DDM table.
    • Orders Full - Outbound handling costs are defined using the orders_full DDM table.
    • Shipments Full - Outbound handling costs are defined using the shipment_full DDM table.
  7. If you selected "Carrying Costs", select the Carrying node or click Next.

  8. Select the source for inbound handling costs. This is one of:
    • Inventory Policies - this is the default. Carrying costs are defined using the inventory_policies DDM table.
    • Enter Manually - You enter the value to be used for carrying costs in the Inventory Policies model table.
  9. If you select "Enter Manually", enter the inventory cost value under Cost Details. The value should be between 0 and 100.

Your inventory costs are now complete.
