Managing data flows

On the Data Flows home page, each data flow in the table has a kebab menu that provides access to a number of functions.

Open a data flow

There are two ways to open a data flow for editing and running:

  • Click the data flow name in the Data Flows table, or

  • Click the kebab for the data flow and select Open.

If any of the model or DDM assets used in your data flow have been upgraded since you last saved the data flow, you see an "Upgraded Assets Detected" message. Click OK to dismiss the message. Review your data flow to address any schema changes, then click Save to update the data flow with the new asset version information.

If your model assets are not currently at the latest schema version, you see a warning that one or more models require upgrading. These assets display a warning icon in the Connections panel. You can review model database changes in the release notes to determine if schema changes would affect your data flow, then upgrade the models as needed. Click the kebab menu for the connection requiring an upgrade and select Upgrade Model. Modeler is opened in a browser tab and the selected model is upgraded.

Share a data flow

You can share a data flow with one or more users in your company. When sharing a data flow, assets that are used as connection data sources are also shared. This ensures that users with which you share data flows can successfully edit and run them.

When working on a shared data flow, be sure to publish your draft if you want it to be accessible to other users. Otherwise, they will see the data flow without your changes. See Drafts and multiple users for more information.
  1. Click the kebab menu for the data flow and select Share. You see the Share Data Flow flyout.

  2. In the list, click to select the user or user group, or begin typing the name of the person or group.
  3. Repeat step 2 to select additional users or groups as needed.

  4. Click Share. The data flow and assets are shared with the user.

Remove a share from a data flow

  1. Click the kebab for the data flow and select Share. You see the Share Data Flow flyout.

  2. In the list, click the X to the right of the user or group name to remove.

  3. Click Share to save the updated list.

Transfer ownership of a data flow

You can transfer ownership of a data flow to another user in your company if you are the data flow owner. When transferring a data flow, the data flow itself is transferred to the new owner. The assets that are used as connection data sources are shared if needed. This ensures that users with which you share data flows can successfully edit and run them.

  1. Click the kebab for the data flow and select Transfer Ownership. You see the Transfer Ownership flyout.

  2. Enter or select the user to whom ownership should be transferred.

  3. Click Transfer. The selected user is now the owner of the data flow.

Duplicate a data flow

When you duplicate a data flow, the connections, parameters and actions are all duplicated. The assets that are used as data sources in connections are not duplicated.

  1. Click the kebab for the data flow and select Duplicate. You see the Duplicate flyout with a default name for the new data flow.

  2. The action checks to see if the selected data flow has changes that have not yet been published (that is, they are saved to a draft, but not published). If there are such changes, a checkbox is displayed called "Include unpublished changes". This checkbox is selected by default. You can uncheck it if you don't want the unpublished changes included in the new duplicated data flow.

  3. Edit the name if required. The name must not include special characters (/ \ : * ? " < > |) and must be unique for your user.

  4. Click Duplicate. The data flow is duplicated with the new name.

Delete a data flow

You can delete a data flow if you are the owner. When you delete a data flow, the connections, parameters and actions are all deleted. The assets that are used as data sources in connections are not deleted. You may need to make changes to any apps or macros that reference the data flow.

  1. Click the kebab for the data flow and select Delete. You are asked to confirm the deletion.

  2. Click Delete. The data flow is deleted.

Rename a data flow

  1. Click the kebab for the data flow and select Rename. You see the Duplicate flyout with a default name for the new data flow.

  2. Enter the new name for the data flow. The name must not include special characters (/ \ : * ? " < > |) and must be unique for your user.

  3. Click Rename. The data flow is duplicated with the new name.
