USA-Canada LTL Rates
The USA-Canada LTL reference rates by SMC3 web service returns an estimated LTL market rate for a specific shipment weight, given a freight class for shipments between the USA and Canada. You can select a standard freight class or use “None”. “None” acts as an FAK (Freight All Kinds) with rating between 70 and 77.5. You can adjust the estimated rate with an optional discount Adjustment Factor. This is a multiplier that calibrates the benchmark rate against observations of historical rates.
The rates:
- Exclude fuel
- Require full postal codes
- Include a 70%market-based discount
- Include an $85 minimum charge
You can estimate fuel surcharge costs by entering a value for the Average Diesel Fuel Price per Gallon.
If you specify an origin in Canada, the destination must be in the USA, and vice versa.
To use the USA-Canada LTL Rates web service:
- On the Data Services main page, select USA-Canada LTL Rates from the Transportation Rates drop-down.
- Enter the Shipment Weight. This should be a positive value from 1 to 999,999.

The Results will display one record for each unique Shipment Weight-Origin-Destination-Freight Class-Diesel Fuel-Adjustment combination that has a valid LTL tariff.
The number of output records for each input record is populated in the Result Count column on the query.
The results retrieved by the web service call are displayed below the query, for example:
