The lane process

As described previously, the shipping item completes five steps to reach its destination.

  1. Shipping Item Queued at Lane

Each order is placed into the lane queue as a shipping item. These orders are sent to fulfill a sourcing request sent from the destination.

  2. Review Period for Queue

The contents of the queue are then analyzed and evaluated at the review period.

  3. Mode Rule Execution

The mode is then selected for the shipping item by the mode rule, and sent to the queue for the selected mode. For more information, refer to Types of transportation policies.

  4. Mode Behavior

The shipping item is queued at the mode, waiting for the mode to accept the item and ship it. For instance, LTL mode shipments happen immediately, while Full TL mode shipments wait for the fill level to be reached in the queue, and then the items are shipped.

  5. Item Shipped

The shipping item is then placed on the appropriate mode and released to the destination.
