BOMs and processes
You can set up processes and BOMs to operate throughout the model horizon by applying them in the various assignments tables.

The Bill Of Material Assignments table provides a structure where you can control which BOMs are used per Period-Site-Product combination. For each BOM assignment, you can define a cost. Additionally, you have the ability to link the BOM to a process. The “Link to Process” Assignment Policy forces the BOM to link to another process, removing the independent selection of a process.
When you assign a BOM in a specific period, the BOM is available for production in that period. If there is no BOM assignment defined in a period, the model can still produce the product; it does so without using a process. For example, if you define a BOM assignment for Period 1 only, the product will still be produced in the other periods, but without the specific BOM.
The general steps for working with bills of materials are:
- Ensure that Production Policies are defined for each product involved in the BOM.
- Ensure that the site that makes the final product has valid sources for any component products used in the BOM.
- Define the BOM-component relationships in the Bills Of Material table.
- Assign the bills of material to specific period-site-product combinations using the Bill Of Material Assignments table. This table includes assignment policies and additional BOM specific costs. If you delete a Product record that is used in a Bills Of Material record, Bill Of Material Assignments for the affected BOM are deleted. This is true even if the Bills Of Material table has other components assigned to the BOM.
- Use the Production Constraints table to apply any required limits to BOM usage.
