Functions

Functions allow you to apply sophisticated data selection and analysis to selected fields in a Data Guru expression. They can be added and defined in one step, or they can be applied to an existing field in the expression; the only difference is how the field is selected.

Functions are an important part of the expressions you build within Data Guru actions.

You can create functions in several areas within the application:

  • Any action that provides a box for defining a filter
  • Any action that provides a box for defining an expression

To create a function:

  1. Click on a filter or expression box, and begin typing.

As you type, Data Guru begins filtering a list of the fields and functions available based on the characters you enter.

  2. Use the mouse or the down arrow key to select the function, and press Enter. The function is created, with icons representing the name of the function and each argument used in the function.
  3. Hover over the function's icon for its description and information about each argument.
  4. For each argument -
    • Click on the argument's icon to choose or enter its value, which may be an expression or other value based on its data type.
    • To enter a user value, type a single quote character, and then type in the value.
    • Press Enter to save the argument.
  5. Use the right or left arrow keys to move to another argument.
